Letters of Love to Guruji

in May, 2018, the ashram sent a letter to the extended community / spiritual family about Vyasa’s illness, calling for prayers and support.

the response was OVERWHELMING, with many offering support, desiring to visit, and stay informed. thus began the dialog below, with seven letters being sent from the ashram that brought a flood of replies, buoying our spirits and giving assurance that guruji’s presence will live on in the hearts of many souls around the world. While the letters range from piercingly poignant to brief encouragements, all are included, as blossoms in a bouquet of grace.

the seven letters are separated by photo panels. We invite you to browse through A SAMPLING OF LETTERS THAT CAME IN REPLY, in each section, inhaling the fragrance of loving gratitude that still rises heavenwards, to embrace the feet of our beloved gurudev.

Dear Friends,
May 24th will begin a silent vigil for Victor (Vyasa Deva) Landa, who is coming home from a hospitalization to be with the community. Victor has been sick and the recent progression of the disease has been such that we do not know if he will recover. The vigil is to open the ashram doors and to open our hearts together for him in this special hour of need. It is to pay our respects and to offer our gratitude and love.

It can be done at your home or on a visit to the ashram. Please enter downstairs. His room will likely be on the first floor. Whether one can see him or sit with him will depend on his condition at the time.

We ask for strict silence and please no questions or discussion about his condition as that is not what he wants and it distracts from the present. He has had excellent care according to his choices, with many little miracles along with big obstacles along the way. Now, he is tired.

The vigil will likely end at the Mary Help of Christians annual celebration on Monday (see attached); Victor had actually mentioned that on this day he might come out of the seclusion that began January 6th. What happens remains to be seen. He may surprise us all!

I know you are collecting prayer lists; I spoke to Margarita yesterday after we left and she has spoken to our Pai in Brazil and has blessing to dedicate our gira of Pretos Velhos, this Saturday, to Victor and his recovery. You said that he is fighting for his life because it is the most precious gift; we will fight for it too and we will pray. With all of those people who love him and so many prayers going, combined with a will to live and not let go yet (yet I am sure combined with the complete surrender to the will of God), I am sure there can be more miracles yet. Where there is breath there is life. I am going to do as you said and picture Victor healthy, and smiling, laughing, joyful, eating, and comfortable in his body...and project that image out to ten thousand mirrors that reflect it yet again, so that the whole universe becomes filled with healthy Victor, and a rejoicing community. If Reiki is accepted as well as prayers, I am happy to send.

One of my felting Friends gets milk from the csa? /Ashram. I spoke to her about our vigil and celebration of Vyasa . She revers Gurigi and said she could FEEL him as soon as I mentioned him to her in class tonight Mon 5/28 .. that’s why I could not stay for the movie. We had class even though it’s a holiday. She’s very spiritual and practices Kundalini Yoga. She is lighting a candle for Gurigi when she goes home / went home after our class.

Yes, recovery is the focus. Today’s beautiful gathering of such beautiful souls solidified that for me. Lakshmi’s lovely update added positive vibrations and helped to better understand. The St Rita prayer I will say. I have also forwarded this to my children, as they love Victor, too.

All my tears today felt like they were coming from my heart which was overflowing with the feeling of love to a new degree. I am certain my capacity to love grew larger today, once again, because of Guruji and the community I have been blessed to know. Such gratitude I have for the School of Life, the CSA and the Essence Church of Peace.

Yesterday I read that when Mr Rodgers was young and crazy things were happening in the world his mother would say, “Look for the helpers in the world.” I don’t have to look very far.

I understand I may not be able to see Victor, but if you could please tell him for me that meeting him was one of my greatest blessings and thank him for exemplifying service so I may learn to serve. I just saw this last night. I am so sad to read this. I have not been a presence at all in these years, but Victor and his teachings and his essence have never left my heart and I have always felt terribly guilty about not making more effort to come by. I cannot explain it but the way his soul touches another. Well...you know, of course...you all know...you have it and you live with this every day and although I know the teachings are that the body is a vessel for the spirit and attachment is something to work away from, I am sure you are all with a heavy heart and affected so much. My heart goes to all of you, and my admiration and respect to all of you as well. If not to late, I would like to try to attend the service Monday. Depending on whether I can find a sitter for my family, to stay a bit longer, but at least to be there for the service. Or if it is just okay to pass by any time; I was not sure from the email.

But, with humility, would like to offer my gratitude for one of the greatest influence on my life (even though you don't see me) and greatest souls I ever encountered.

I am very sorry to learn that Victor is physically struggling. Vyasa has served all people he encountered so humbly that now he is blessed with the unconditional support of you and his community. This letter is to give thanks to each and all of you who have replied with messages of love, good will, and solidarity with Guruji Victor Vyasa Landa as He continues to work very hard to stay with us and continue to fulfill His mission of service to God in His fellow beings.

Many, many of you have written that you feel His presence with you always, and that you are praying, doing reiki, and sending healing energies towards Him.

The news we are filled with joy to bring you is that there has been a shift and he is now getting stronger, with big leaps forward in the last few days – eating, walking, talking, and – we shouldn’t be surprised at this – sharing His wisdom and grace.

We share this especially because we would like to reaffirm that His and our attitude is one of mobilizing all resources of the mind, heart, soul and body in the direction of health and life, coupled with complete faith in the wisdom and goodness of God, and we ask that those of you who wish join us in this ongoing support.

We would also particularly like to thank Mr. Alfredo Sfeir-Younis, a dear friend of Victor’s who came at less than a day’s notice from Chile to offer continuous personal and powerful spiritual support for four days, imparting a special mantra and yantra technique specific for healing the Guru.

His healing presence and work, Divine Mother’s abundant grace, and the loving energies offered by nearly two hundred friends who have written or visited over the last few days, seems to be just what the divine world needs to channel life restoring energies into Vyasa’s physical, etheric, emotional and mental bodies.

In humble gratitude, we pray you will accompany us until He is back among us in full force, after this extended period of deep detoxification, rest and healing.

a big hug and my heart for you and Victor. mariana sent me the invitation for victors vigil. My love and devotion for victor were always in my heart and I am very proud to consider myself a friend of him. I consider to be a great privilege for me to count with him. even though we didn´t chat that much the last time, He was been always with me, and every time I thought about him, was a reason to smile and to be grateful with life and with him. If you think it may be possible to talk to him on the phone for few minutes, it would make real a deep desire I have, to do that. please let me know. I have victor also, and he has me, in his skype list. Im in Bolivia, it’s the same time as in Washington. If its not possible to talk to him, just tell him that being a friend of him, has been one of the greatest privileges I have had in my life, and that I thank him profoundly for giving me his tender, wisdom and time.

My heart is so heavy to hear this news. I did a modified version of his Yoga CD this morning which I haven’t been able to do lately because of my physical pain and limitations. I get such peace and reassurance from hearing Victor’s voice- there’s always a confirmation from him that I’m on the right path and to continue my practice, even if it’s a somewhat sad, modified version. Victor has been a constant source of peace and wisdom for me for about 25 years. I feel so blessed to have crossed his path many years ago and he will always make a positive impact on my life whether he is here on earth or as a Heavenly Angel. Please tell Victor that my husband Charles and I, send our love and prayers. Also, please tell him that we are extremely grateful to him for sharing his wisdom, love and light with us.

And what a wonderful surprise by Alfredo to come and visit - a healing visit. Alfredo is such a thoughtful person with a great heart. Yes, "while there is breath, there is life, while there is life, there is hope." - and miracles do happen. Victor is a Miracle Person for the World! As to Reynaldo Cuadros - this coming Friday, two weeks ago, we met in Lima. He called me by surprise. We had lunch together in a nice vegan restaurant - and we talked about Victor and decided to meditate and pray for Victor - we talked about the three of us - he still remembers us as the "Three Musketeers". He then traveled by bus to Cusco, Puno ad back to La Paz. Please keep us informed about Victor's improvement. He is in our minds with lots of love,

Firstly, we would like again to thank each and all of you who has written in loving support and concern for Guruji Victor Vyasa Landa. We regret it has not been possible to reply personally to each letter, due to the sheer volume and the demands that daily life brings in such situations, however, please know each one has been read with gratitude.

Now again is a decisive moment, when we would like to ask for a renewed group effort of prayer to ask God's grace to give Guruji the strength to carry on, and for the excellent treatments he is receiving to take effect and bring him to good health.

One of the most common and beautiful messages shared by many of you, is how you feel Victor / Guruji's presence with you, and how his teachings still serve as a guide every day, through the years.

The greatest honor we can give a teacher of course is to live the teachings, to preserve and pass them on through our way of being. A powerful help to that is to read and reflect on the teachings often. Guruji is an immensely prolific teacher, through writing but especially through the spoken word. Hundreds of hours of his teachings have been recorded. As part of an effort to preserve and spread these teachings, we would like to invite any of you who many be interested to sign up to receive weekly a transcribed excerpt of his teachings.

For those of you who may be looking for a practice to do on His behalf, a group of us prays one Our Father, three Hail Mary's, and one Gloria at 9 a.m. daily. A smaller group of us offers this prayer sequence three times daily. Meditation of course and japa are also powerful ways to generate and send healing energy. The Ashram yoga room remains open 24/7 for those wishing to spend time in vigil near His physical presence.

Thank you all for your love and friendship to this precious being, who has dedicated his whole life to bringing peace and joy to his fellow beings as an act of worship to God.

Such beautiful energy emanating from this email - thank you so much ! And yes I will continue with the tryambakams and dedicating my practices here at Sivananda ranch ashram for the benefit of Shanti yoga center and dear Vyasa. I will be here another week or two - just graduated tonight from the month course and am now a "yoga archarya" at least per my diploma. More seriously I am humbled at the responsibility this knowledge carries and will redouble my efforts to practice and live the yogic Truths - at all times and in all places.

I think of all that Guruji has done there in Washington DC every day, and all that he does every moment through all of you there, and am always struck at the enormity of it all - spreading peace and unconditional love through example and experience, through daily life of always thinking of others and not getting sidetracked for even a moment - truly awe inspiring.

I will continue my prayers and meditation for Victor and for all of you there at the Ashram in Bethesda. I did a special spray of the horsetail herb, Equisetum arvense, diluted and stirred for an hour as I prayed for him last Sunday. It was sprayed all over this 70 acre Biodynamic farm which has a forest, creeks, springs, caves, waterfalls. The 50 gallon tank of this Equisetum arvense potentized has the energized minerals of silica and sulfur which bring in the cosmic forces into the physical body here on the earth plane enlivening the etheric and astral bodies which you can read about in Rudolf Steiner's lectures on Agriculture (1925) and also his Medical Lectures (1921).
I will stay in a meditative, prayerful state for Victor.

Dear Lakshmi and Durga,
Margarita did a special cleansing ceremony (defumação) at her house
yesterday and a work was passed for her to do special prayers and candles for Victor today. We just did it...she at her home and I connected with her. It was very powerful for me...I have not yet talked to her. Had a clear vision of the disease being lifted up out of His body, and then a sparkling of so many little lights surround him, a magic that infused all of his treatments with the energy of cure...and a final vision of him being carried above a crowd of all his people and family and followers, and they were celebrating him as he waved in celebratory rejoicement at having returned to his full glory. Full of health and vitality and smiling ear to ear and they crowd celebrated him...

I am sad to hear that Guruji is not well. I am not sure what is wrong with him (I am not staying in the loop of things), but I guess it must be serious. I think of you, Guruji, Hanuman, and the ashram in general often. Thank you for all that you have done for us during the years.

I am going to Prashanti Nilayam on Tuesday. If you would like to write a letter for Guruji I can offer it with a rose at Sai Baba's tomb. I will certainly write a letter on Vyasa's behalf, but if you want to write it too I will also submit your request. The only thing is since it will be emailed to me I will be able to see it, but I won't read it. I will print it and put it in the envelope.

I am sorry we did not have more time when I was visiting DC, but even that little bit of talk downtown was appreciated and I was very happy to experience the wonderful seva that Guruji has been supporting for many, many years.

I know it is difficult to say, but each of our bodies has a designated time time on this earth, the wise ones use it for the benefit of society and uplifting those around themselves... to think and see themselves as the everlasting Spirit. Guruji has done that, and therefore his Spirit is and will live forever live in the good thoughts, words and deeds of his disciples, and those he has touched.

Please give my love, prayers and peace to Guruji and the rest, and let's remember that we are also That what we have been looking for all of our lives - the same Spirit that embodies Guruji's body.

Can you please add me to the list to receive transcribed excerpts of Victor’s teachings? I love the idea of supporting Victor’s healing and honoring his life by living his teachings. I have always been in awe that he sees only the most pure and best in each person. Through my work with the CSA there have certainly been times when I got frustrated or annoyed that this or that person forgot their share or took something by accident, or not by accident, but Victor’s messages always served as a reminder to be totally understanding and loving. After reading even the first few words of his responses it always put things in perspective and instead of “reacting” I always took a step back and tried to respond with understanding. I will carry this with me and keep imagining Victor growing stronger and filled with light and health.

I had such a lovely and powerful meditation today in the shakti mandir, holding you and the community in my thoughts and feeling such gratitude for the nourishment, sustenance, education and kindness you and the community have bestowed on so many through your work and service. I thank you from the bottom of my heart and believe I have the sacred milk to thank for the health of my children (who have not needed antibiotics thus far at ages 18 and 15).

The shakti in the mandir was so palpable and my heartfelt thanks for the love, austerities, and devotion that you have poured into that sacred space and the healing milk, food, and energy you have shared with so many. The ashram is a gem hiding in plain site and who can ever know the ripples of grace that have flowed out from East West Highway and touched so many, including those who might not even know about the ashram!

We are very happy to let you know that the crisis that was looming at the time of sending our last letter has passed! We credit this very much to all of your emanations of love, light, and life towards uplifting his precious being.

In the next 45 days, there is a very special opportunity for great improvement to be gained, so, once more, we ask that whoever feels called, join us in redoubled spiritual support, until early to mid September.

Since people have asked: He is still very much in silent, isolated retreat, and is not reading emails, taking calls, or receiving visitors. Now is the time to strengthen the energetic eggshell so to speak, allowing new life forces to build and mature.

Recently we received these inspiring and practical words of wisdom from the Ascended Masters on the question of Faith, so relevant to any one facing the illness of a loved one: (slightly edited for clarity)

“Without raw material such as coal, iron, and timber...you could not have a manifestation of the third-dimensional objects which have blessed mankind in the requirements of life. When a person receives a divine idea from the indwelling Presence of God-- the blueprint of some desire by which to enrich or beautify life [eg., the return of a loved one to perfect health] -- there must be provided the raw material from whence the finished product will ensue. ‘Faith is the substance of things hoped for—the evidence of things not seen.’ The desire released to the mind from the indwelling presence of God represents the THING hoped for. FAITH is the raw material, the ACTUAL SUBSTANCE emanating from the person working to manifest the idea/desire….

[Realizing that the] divine idea comes from God into the mind disabuses the human being of undue responsibility and unconscious arrogance as being the doer. We must then turn to the power of the indwelling Presence of God as the ONLY POWER that can act, and this self-surrender begins the radiation of faith, which is a release of substance from the indwelling Presence which puts the mind at ease and actually draws, coalesces and precipitates the manifestation. The love of the person for the indwelling presence of God allows the quality known as FAITH to flow through the individual."

A reminder for those of you who have asked if any regular group prayer is being held: Since St. Rita of Cascia has proven a most powerful ally for Guruji to bring healing, we are holding a 15-week devotional each Thursday at 7p.m. for those who would like to join in person or via Skype--there are thirteen weeks left. Our Prayers Have Been Answered! Milestone Met

To all of you who have been following Guruji’s condition since the news of his illness was announced in May, we want to share the good news that prayers have been answered and all signs show that he is recovering. A milestone has been achieved showing that a very special Ayurvedic treatment begun in July is working beautifully. Plus, Guruji is feeling better and slowly regaining strength.

He remains in seclusion as there is still a long road ahead, and wants you all to know of his deep gratitude for your support and prayers, your faith and hope and love.

With gratitude and respect for your support and caring for Victor Landa, on the auspicious night of this full moon, this message is being sent as a follow up to the letter of August 1, in which we shared that a decisive moment is coming up for Guruji -- and for all of us who love him and benefit so much from His being here among us.

We find ourselves facing the next several days with joyful anticipation, trusting in the mercy, goodness, and wisdom of God, much like a woman preparing for the labor and delivery of a child.

In the most recent public talk Guruji gave (on Jan 6th), a main theme was that our planet is within a crucial window of opportunity, when the task falls upon each woman and man to emit as much light as possible, so that en masse, the planet will radiate enough light to secure a joyful, noble, splendid course of continued evolution. He explained how, while much help is being given humankind from the divine world, we need to “put our part”, and actively cooperate with those forces so their help can bear fruit.

Now, almost exactly nine months later, our community –of which you are a beloved member—is in a “micro-cosmic” position in relation to this precious person. Guruji Victor Vyasa Landa has devoted his life to helping people improve every aspect of their lives—emotional problems, relationships, finances, finding purpose and meaning in life, physical healing, and so on, often pulling people out of dire straits. Now he is in his own hour of need, and many signs have come over the last nine months of Divine help; this letter is a renewed call to all our friends who feel it in your hearts to “match” that help by embracing Guruji Victor in a warm mantle of love, light, and prayer for the next several days.

We leave you with a teaching he gave several years ago. We hope that it encourages, comforts, and uplifts you on your personal path:

The purpose of our existence is to serve. Until we have realized this, not intellectually but deep in our being—that the reason we are on this planet is to serve our fellow beings and God—we are still under the sway of the ego. Work is a necessary condition of living on earth. You cannot get anything without work. You cannot eat; you would have no shelter or clothing without work. God said this to Adam when he ate of the Apple: “You shall earn your bread with the sweat of your brow.” In the astral plane, you just think of a thing and it appears; no effort, no work. On the physical plane, the material is dense, and it takes a lot of effort to live. So we might as well get used to the idea!

Even after we have evolved past the stage of human being, we are destined to evolve through the angelical hierarchies—angel, archangel, thrones, virtues, powers, etc. And at each higher level, there is a greater scope of service to be done. But at those stages in reality you don’t look on it as work—it gives great joy. But still—it is not as if you do your work and then you’re done. As long as you have a body—even such a subtle body—there is work to be done. And then, when you have evolved beyond serving on this planet—even at subtle levels—you go on to other planets; and then you progress beyond this galaxy, and so on into other universes.

The secret is to learn to do our actions with the energy of pure love…. Love is a state of being—it is not conditional. It is only giving, all the time. It is abundance. We always give the example of the sun. The sun is always there, giving its light—it does not say, Oh, that John is a so-and-so, I’m not going to shine on him today. No. It just shines, because that is its nature. God is Love. And that is what we are, that is our real nature.

 Guruji touched so many lives. His life was a model of unconditional love paired with unceasing work and service. We are so blessed and grateful to have been able to live with him and learn from his example all these years.

For those who ask "What can I do to help?" Guruji's mission was to bring the Kingdom of God to Earth. In the four talks he gave this year, he gave the same essential message: “Do God’s will, do God’s work, and help, in whatever way we can, whoever needs help. Keep bringing to the world the love of God. The love that you receive, pass it on. It’s so much needed. Love unconditionally, love intensely, work on feeling that love, make it real-- make it have expression in the world. This is our main responsibility.”

All the programs and organizations that this incredibly prolific, constructive man established were for this end: Shanti Yoga Ashram with its classes; Spiritual Food CSA, promoting vegetarianism and spiritual agriculture; The Essene Church of Peace with its weekly serving the homeless program; the Lectio Divina groups for studying divine wisdom; the Weekly Meditation for World Peace; Aparigraha, a new Economic Paradigm for a Culture of Peace; the Women’s Self-Reliance Program, for teaching impoverished women to grow their own food and start their own businesses, and many more.  By the grace of God and Guru, we will continue all this work, and invite you all to join us, experience his being and his blessing, and carry on His glorious mission.

I am remembering Guruji and thinking of you all with love. It has been a privilege to be part of Guruji’s extended family and to have shared your journey these past months.

I wanted to let you know that my Intention Group, which convenes weekly by telephone to send positive intention to others, has been part of the vigil for Guruji. Our members extend from Washington, DC to Ontario, Canada. Our last session for Guruji was on Sunday, December 9, two days after his death (we had not yet received news that he had transitioned.) Following is the message that I received from our group after I shared the news of his passing:

Condolences Leanne, he will be dearly missed I’m sure. I have to tell you that during our mediation for him specifically on Sunday night all 3 of us - Susie Lisa and I - all unanimously went to an out of body kind of place!! Three minutes felt like the blink of an eye and we couldn’t recall any visions. That he’d transitioned by then explains it!!! He’s back home in pure love

We are sure that Guruji is residing in pure love, much as he brought pure love to others on the Earth plane.

I was fortunate to have had the privilege of being in his wonderful presence and receiving his teachings a few times.

I will continue my prayers and meditation for Victor and for all of you there at the Ashram in Bethesda. I did a special spray of the horsetail herb, Equisetum arvense, diluted and stirred for an hour as I prayed for him last Sunday. It was sprayed all over this 70 acre Biodynamic farm which has a forest, creeks, springs, caves, waterfalls. The 50 gallon tank of this Equisetum arvense potentized has the energized minerals of silica and sulfur which bring in the cosmic forces into the physical body here on the earth plane enlivening the etheric and astral bodies which you can read about in Rudolf Steiner's lectures on Agriculture (1925) and also his Medical Lectures (1921). I will stay in a meditative, prayerful state for Victor.

Just wanted to share this with you. Yesterday when I left the Ashram and returning home, I stopped at a traffic light which was red and there was this old man begging. I had nothing to give him because I did not have my purse with me, and I felt so badly. Then I remembered you gave me a piece of Victor's BD cake, I told him all I had was a piece of cake and would he like to have it. He said " yes" and I was actually able to see him take a bite of the cake and smiled, and as I drove away I thought to myself, Victor was feeding the less fortunate even though he is not physically here with us today.

It was a blessing to participate in the memorial birthday service for Victor today. Like a lot of people, I miss him so much, and it was so good to share our feelings among dear friends. I only new him for such a short period of time, just a few years, but I will never forget his words and his deep love for everyone.

Although I will not be able to attend the memorial celebration of Vyasa's life, my thoughts will be with him and all of you.

A little something to share: On a number of occasions I had the opportunity to accompany Vyasa into the city. When we would encounter a homeless person or someone asking for help, he would always reach into his pocket, take out a bill and give it to them. He didn't worry about how the person would use it, HE JUST GAVE. This was a great example of humility and non-judgement. I don't walk the streets of Pittsburgh very often but when driving through the city.there is always someone at the traffic lights or intersections, asking for help. I've made it a habit to keep dollar bills in my car so I can follow in Vyasa's example. Just one of the many ways he has impacted my life.
